Do I understand correctly that they are dropping to support all other protocols except web? One more (very big) step in the old and very sad tendency. The tendency is probably 3-4 years old - they almost stop to develop the product from performance tester point of view (although they tried to integrate it with development environment - Rose, etc.). The product was close to LoadRunner at one point - but now, by my opinion, is far from it. We replaced Rational tools by LoadRunner at our company completely about 3 years ago - and never came back although had licenses for some time. There were good features in Rational - for example, network recording - but they stop to support it for newer protocols. I hoped that IBM will find some money to reanimate the product - looks like the opposite is going to happen.

So, Roland, I am afraid that LoadRunner is your future ;-)
