Eating an Elephant

And so it starts - VSTE now installed on my machine and starting to explore what it offers. All the right words seem to be there - unit tests, code coverage, load testing, manual tests. Just the fact that they are there and people are discussing about how to use them is a giant step in the right direction.
So it was with a mixture of excitment and nerves that I went over to a developers desk as he proudly showed me the first unit tests he'd written
Exciting because here it was for real - not theory in a book or web page but an actual living breathing unit test.
Nerves as now the pressure starts - was it a GOOD unit test ? How many unit tests should we be writing ? How and when do we start with the integration testing ?
Fortunately, I'd read an entry in Steve Rowe's Blog, So You Want to Be a Test Developer ?. Another good read and more books for me to think about adding to my ever growing library. My attention though was taken by a comment made
What you describe is (rightly) a huge mountain of knowledge that can be easily discouraging. Patience is the key. Remember that eating an elephant is possible if you just take one bite at a time.
Good advice for us as we start on the process of implementing some proper testing and QA. Dont go giving the developers indigestion and keep feeding them small tasty morsels
