And another peer conference to apply for.

events
[Textile]So I have just got back from a "WOPR":http://www.performance-workshop.org/ at the googleplex in CA. Now once more the nice google people are hosting a conference on testing, but this time I do not need to cross the atlantic, which is nice.

A "Call for Papers":http://googleresearch.blogspot.com/2006/04/our-conference-on-automated-testing.html has been raised for an event to happen in September at the London Googleplex for a test automation conference.

Ten Talks are required with the close for a 500 word outline to be submitted by June 1st 2006, which if you think about it is less then 15 words a day to try and book a place as a speaker.

Now I am personally very excited about this. "Allen Hutchison":http://www.hutchison.org/allen/, the man behind the event, gave one of the most exciting talks (for me) at StarWest last year talking about an test tool he has developed OAF which was very interesting and passionately presented.

Also I believe there is a gap between the state of the art of automation and the state of the practice. I know as I have discovered my test coding is not as good as it once was and I believe that there is a need for test code to be as good if not better then the development code (some thing I will expand on in a later blog).

So "submit":http://googleresearch.blogspot.com/2006/04/our-conference-on-automated-testing.html, this is a chance to interact with some of the coolest and most interesting people in test automation in what I believe will be an inspirational peer conference for the test automation field.

Heck it may even get posted on Google Video and that will give me the justification for the video ipod. Go on support my technology habit, "submit":http://googleresearch.blogspot.com/2006/04/our-conference-on-automated-testing.html.

Thanks to google for putting this event on and supporting this event I am sure there is a positive long term benefit there for all involved and it is good to see big companies looking beyond the short term buck.
This is an important step in building a community that can influence the practice beyond the vendorware record and playback world I so often am faced with; which has a place but for me is not the one I want to spend all my time in.

So with "Wopr 7":http://www.performance-workshop.org/ to occur in the UK, and another "LEWT":http://www.workroom-productions.com/LEWT.html or two this year looks I will get my fix of peer conferences.

Just need to submit papers for some of the mainstream ones as well so that I do not limit my learning to a specific community.
