My favorite links (functional testing)

people issues
This is actually an appendix to my abstract for a regional conference . The presentation title translated to English may be something like Tester’s Growth: person and project context.
There are 3 goals of the presentation and the first is addressed by this blog (hope anyone will find it useful)–
1) Provide an overview of readings I suggest for everyone who want to grow and team leaders/managers who want to support tester growth
2) Describe the alternative career paths
3) Outline the possible obstacles in the context of project team, management and a tester

The order in each part is more or less random.

I’ve marked all links with one of the following marks:
“!” - “!!!” Must Read (if you are target reader)
“+” - “+++” my subjective recommendation (mostly for my own blogs)
“?” - “???” I believe it is supposed that you should know this stuff (academic/formal/etc. stuff for those who are obsessed with CMM/ISO/Six Sigma or want to make an academic publication).

More or less classic reading
! FAQ on testingQuestions and Answers in a simple way describing testing stuff
!!! Testing learning materials, outstanding one, including video lectures
+++ “Equivalence partitioning” testing technique #1 IMHO
++ Not repeatable bugs: What does it mean and how to make them repeatable. Also why no tests could be absolutely repeatable.
!! This book is not about testing , but will help you to understand generic concepts that are very useful in testing
!! lot of nice publications on most of testing related questions
! Book supposing breaking software as the main testing goal
? Testing terminology glossary – supposed to be up to date, but not of particularly impressive quality.
! testing conferences in USA
! Testing conferences in Europe - a classic one
! Another (concurrent) classic testing conference in Europe
?? tester certification one of options - ISTQB

Advanced reading – primary for the experienced testers
!! Forum – ask here anything about testing and QA. But first search – most of the questions have been asked already
++ About tester’s reputation and the benefits of it
!! Grey box testing – quite a missed testing concept
+ Experience based everyday decisions in testing
++ Evaluating each defect you have found before reporting it
+++ More on evaluating defects: analyze reasons
!!! The best book I could suggest to any experienced tester
! Peer conference, code of ethics and other exciting (and not very typical across commercial even organizers) things led by the association
!! Great publications on Exploratory Testing and much more.

Classic reading for team leaders and managers
!!! Nice overview of what the challenges for test leader are or may be
??? (Academic) overview of IT processes - body of knowledge
!! Practical musing about SDLC (Software Development Lifecycle) and how it affects testing
! Continuous Integration – this is more or less how actually software are built today
+ Maslow's hierarchy of needs. The link is to wikipedia because I’ve actually learned it in university instead of reading anything
!!! The book number one I suggest for test team leader or tester willing to become one.
? IEEE – well I don’t read that but others does
??? I used to recommend this as good collection of publications on management and testing ...
!! How both leader and follower may grow in their interactions. A short but great reading

For those who does not yet know what is Agile
! Agile manifesto : the basics
! XP – the most popular agile methodology
