The good, the bad and the ugly...

perspectives
Jason Gorman wrote a humorous yet thought provoking post, likening SCRUM to a virus.

Mucho controversio has followed...

Apparently some consider this insulting.

Should marketing folk be insulted and offended by the idea of viral marketing? Of course not... viral marketing is one of the most effective forms of marketing on the planet... in fact if you create a campaign that spreads virally, you consider that a success! So, why would anyone be insulted by the idea that Scrum is viral? Please!!!!!!

And indeed, there is his point. It does spread virally, in the marketing sense of the word, but the thought provoked in my mind is "how many people try it because of the viral nature of its self-sustaining marketing-machine and how many try it because it really offers what they need in their organisation?"

So... all-y'all getting all freaked about it... take a chill-pill (sorry to lose my sense of Brit identity there for a moment).

Remember, there are good viruses and bad viruses ;-) and plain ol ugly viruses.

Which one applies to Scrum? That depends on who you are and whether it worked for you or against you... only you will know the answer to that.

Oh... and Jason's right... Scrum isn't rocket science! How can it be - it takes a couple of days on a course with no exam to become a certified as a ScrumMaster! That isn't to say it's Snake Oil (as the insulted would infer) it just isn't that hard to learn.

Keep up the humour and controversy Jason - the blogosphere is lacking both at the moment!
