Inspired By Inspiration
Submitted by jason@parlezuml.com (Jason Gorman) on Thu, 20/03/2008 - 16:38.There are times when I really love what I do for a living. Today is one of them.
I'm working with software developers in one of the world's most well-known media organisations, and we have just had a visit and a talk from a very well known software development writer and "thought leader".
The buzz among those who attended this guy's talk is palpable today. It feels like we've shifted up a gear. A requirements analyst sitting next to me says he's planning to start writing code again. That NEVER happens!
He basically just sat there and said: "I think I'll be a better analyst if I know how to write code."
And he's very probably right, because all the best requirements analysts I've worked with have been developers (and I don't mean that they were developers "once upon a time", I mean they were able to cut decent quality code right there and then.)
To see people that inspired makes me glad that I do what I do. And I hope to one day be able to inspire people like that, too.
Until then, of course, I will continue to persue my usual method of punching people repeatedly in the face until they learn to do it my way. (Well, it's a system...)
