Student Collaboration
Student Collaboration
Submitted by testgeek blog - Tim Van Tongeren on Tue, 14/09/2004 - 07:00.In a March 2003 article in Software Development, an example of student collaboration is given by author Alexandra Weber Morales.
"I vividly remember the day I took the final examination in my college Scheme programming class. ...one of us took a break, stretched and asked a classmate how he or she was doing. Soon we were all on our feet, chatting about our progress and hinting at the solutions we'd found - though we didn't share actual programs. We all got back to work, but the ice had been broken."
Stop. I know people who think that whole class cheated. I also know that once they enter the workforce, those same people will be shocked to find that collaboration is required. You may now continue reading...
"...the extra-credit problem remained. We started talking about it. Someone sat down and tested an approach another mentioned. It worked. Someone else contributed another piece of functionality. By the end of the day, we had all finished the test and had collaboratively completed the extra-credit problem. At the final class meeting, our professor awarded us all As and said we'd been his favorite class ever."
I think every Comp Sci student should have at least one of these experiences before entering the workforce.
